Maureen Emmett
Functional Skills Consultant and Training Advisor
Maureen Emmett is a highly-regarded Functional Skills professional with a wide range of experience in policy and quality monitoring; qualification design and assessment. Her knowledge and experience in Functional Skills is second to none, having recently been the national lead for Functional Skills qualifications at the Qualifications and Curriculum Agency (QCDA) with responsibility for monitoring implementation. She played a key role in the development of the functional skills qualifications and was responsible for the management and the collection of data from 3000 centres that took part in the pilot. Maureen's career in the education sector spans over 30 years during which she has worked with all ages and abilities of learners from early years through to post-16 and adults.
John Meed
Award expert and author
John has been closely involved with the development of Key and functional skills. Between 1999 and 2008 John was a member of the Learning for Work team managing the Key Skills Support Programme and writing and developing materials for them. More recently John has been involved in the Functional Skills Support Programme where he co-ordinated teams of writers for the 'Teaching and Learning' series.
Anna Rossetti
Qualified Teacher and author
As a qualified teacher of English and drama, Anna has been involved with adult literacy from it's inception. Working for the Functional Skills Support Programme she co-wrote the English functional skills Handbook for the pilot and has acted as a mentor and consultant to teachers in schools and colleges carrying out development projects for Functional Skills.
Veronica Thomas
Experienced Teacher in Adult Education
An author of Maths - The Basic Skills. Veronica has many years experience teaching and managing literacy and numeracy provision within adult education in Birmingham. Veronica currently teaches tutors to deliver functional maths in their teaching. She wrote Functional Skills material for the Nelson Thornes GCSE pilot.
Deborah Holder
Tutor and Teacher Trainer
Also an author of Maths - The Basic Skills, Debbie has 15 years experience teaching adults and 16 - 19 year old's numeracy skills, including those with learning disabilities. She has taught in colleges, community centres and workplaces and is involved in co-ordinating and delivering teacher training for numeracy subject specialists.
