Construction

The construction industry brings together a wide range of skilled crafts such as painting and decorating, carpentry, bricklaying and roofing. Working alongside those in such trades would also be civil engineers and architects.

Most apprentices gain their qualification through a traditional apprenticeship. This combines college study with on-site experience over a period of two to three years. Successful completion of the NVQ helps apprentices qualify  for one of the industry card schemes, which are essential for working on site. Some specialist apprenticeships are available when access to a college is not possible. In these cases, learning is gained mostly “on the job”.
