Carpentry and Joinery

Qualifications in carpentry and joinery are gained through attendance at FE College on an NVQ programme or via an employer on an Apprenticeship scheme. The latter adds a wider range of qualifications to the NVQ, such as Functional Skills and Employer Rights and Responsibilities.

Some of the key areas of learning to enable students to work competently and professionally are safe working practices in construction, using power tools and first and second fixings. Communicating effectively with colleagues across the building services and estimating quantities are also vital skills to ensure a professional standard is maintained.
